On shared humanity

“Compassion is knowing our darkness well enough that we can sit in the dark with others. It never is a relationship between the wounded and the healed. It is a relationship between equals.”

about

My Journey Through

I became interested in mental health when my own healing work coincided with doctoral research I was undertaking at the University of Toronto on the psychoanalysis of racism and trauma. Rather than the theoretical implications of what I was learning, I became more focused on the material applications. I made the decision to leave academia and pursue a career in this field.

I felt sure enough to make that change because at the time, therapy was saving my life. I can’t imagine who or where I would be if not for the last decade plus of personal growth work. Today, I find deep fulfillment in supporting my clients in transforming their lives. I know the pain and struggle of living with mental health challenges, and I also know that healing is possible.

An intrepid explorer of the heart, I am a healer who is also healing, a guide who is also seeking. I consider myself an endless work in progress, and a committed student of love. I draw on the difficulties I’ve lived to help me understand, empathize, and be with people in their pained places. The adversity I’ve navigated has made me stronger, and ultimately, softer. It taught me grit, and also surrender. It makes me a better therapist and human.

When not with clients, you can find me writing, dancing in the kitchen, spending time with loved ones, tending to plants, learning something new, practicing some kind of self-care, reading six wildly different books at the same time, delighting in my pup, seeking out old trees and large bodies of water, looking for a reason to laugh, or dreaming up my next project or adventure.

ANTI-OPPRESSION
